Gillian Zito, Intern in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Gillian is a counseling intern working towards a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health and Trauma at the University of Denver. She graduated from Wingate University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology in 2021. Gillian has experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Problem-Solving Therapy (PST). She went into social work due to a lifelong pull towards helping others and standing up for those that need it most. While in college, Gillian served as a mentor to women of color and is a strong supporter of women’s rights.

Gillian is passionate about social justice and believes individuals from all backgrounds deserve access to mental health treatment and education. She believes in a client-centered approach and empowers clients to take charge of their own mental health journey. Gillian is an advocate for clients with more stigmatized diagnoses and educating on how bias can impact client care. She accepts clients just as they are and believes in developing a therapeutic partnership of trust, empathy, honesty, and resilience. Gillian believes that each client’s experience is unique and allowing them to lead in their path towards healing.
